MONTGOMERY– The Alabama Senate Committee on Assignments announced Tuesday that Senator Phil Williams (R-Rainbow City) was chosen to serve as Vice Chairman of the Senate General Fund Budget Committee.
The committee’s chairman, Senator Arthur Orr (R-Decatur), said Williams will be a valuable addition to the committee’s leadership, noting his colleague’s conservative approach to governing and commitment to fiscal responsibility.
“Senator Williams is a strong leader who is committed to making sure state government is living within its means and I look forward to working with him as Vice Chairman,” Orr said. “He’s been a champion for smaller, more efficient government, and just this session passed legislation that will save taxpayers tens of millions in IT costs. These are the types of common-sense solutions we have to continue implementing in order to make sure Alabamians are getting the most out of every tax dollar they send to Montgomery.”
Williams, who also serves as Chairman of the Senate Fiscal Responsibility and Accountability Committee, said Republicans in the Legislature have set a strong example for reigning in out-of-control spending and will continue working to identify ways to make government more efficient.
“It is the Legislature’s duty to ensure that state government is operating as efficiently as possible and that taxpayers are getting their money’s worth,” Williams said. “I consider it a tremendous honor to serve as Vice Chairman of the General Fund Budget Committee and assure you that we will continue inspecting every nook and cranny within state government to find ways to save taxpayer money.”
